Makerere university MUASA boss Dr.Kamunyu’s suspension withdrawn

Makerere University has been withdrawn the suspension of the chairperson of Makerere university academic staff association (MUASA) Dr. Deus Kamunyu

Dr. Kamunyu a lecturer in the department of forestry biodiversity and tourism in the college of agriculture and environment sciences was suspended from the university and barred access to his office by Prof. Nawangwe due to misconduct

In a statement the university manager communication and international relations, Dr. Muhammad Kiggundu said the decision was reached after the institution dialoguing with MUASA council parliament and government

Nawangwe accused Dr. Kamunyu of involving himself in the act that taints the university image, intimidation of university officials and use of abusive language among others

However, Dr. Kamunyu refuted all the accusations and decided to sue Makerere university and prof Barnabas  Nawangwe for violating his rights as a Uganda

When the two parties met before justice Lydia Mugambe of the high court a consent judgment was presented to her in which the suspension of the Dr. Kamunyu was dropped on Wednesday 13th

The other issues agreed upon in the consent judgment were the settlement was in full and final settlement of his civil suit which he had lodged in court in January and that he was at liberty to institute a fresh suit is he felt defamed

Dr. Kamunyu is required to submit to the internal processes before the appointment boards

Dr. Deus Kamunyu had in his behalf lawsuit claimed Prof Nawangwe was infringing on his rights as a Ugandan to speak out against the improper running of some affair at the Institute

Professor Barnabus Nawangwe also mentioned different restrictions put to end strikes at the University including denying salaries to lectures involved in strikes and giving retakes to students involved in strikes.
