Stella Nyanzi says she had a miscarriage in jail

Dr. Stella Nyanzi has told High court in Kampala that she got a miscarriage from Luzira prison on Friday last week due to High blood pressure.

She said this on Wednesday when she appeared before Justice Lydia Mugambe for the hearing of a case she filed against Makerere University for refusing to reinstate her back to her job.

Nyanzi who now has short hair looked frail and sad.

She explained to the Judge that she was admitted to the prison’s sickbay and that is why she could not get in touch with her Lawyer Isaac Ssemakadde to swear a supporting affidavit to her case.

She then requested that the matter is adjourned to 19th/February 2019 for hearing.

Nyanzi has been on remand at Luzira prison since November last year on charges of cyber harassment and offensive communication against the president and his late mother Esteri Kokundeka.

In October last year, Makerere  University’s appeal tribunal directed that Nyanzi is re-instated, be paid all her salary arrears and be promoted to the level of a Fellow Researcher with immediate effect after lifting her suspension, but this has never been done.

As a result, Dr. Stella Nyanzi sued Makerere University arguing that she has suffered economic setbacks since she has a family to look after as well as taking care of herself.

However, Makerere University insists Nyanzi’s contract expired and she didn’t make any efforts to renew it even when she learnt that she had been transferred to the School of Law.

For the Criminal Offence, she returns to Buganda road court tomorrow 10th/Jan at Buganda road court.
