M7’s refund of shs1.2bn over Bobi wine’s canceled concerts caused Chaos among music promoters

President Museveni’s refund of shs.1.2 billion over Bobi wine’s music concerts which were canceled several times has caused chaos among music promoters.

Several music event organizers through the Federation of Uganda Promoters Association (FUPA) met President Museveni and addressed their issues after they had threatened to sue inspector general of police Martin Okoth Ochola and his deputy AIGP Sabit Mzee for cancellation of Bobi wine’s several music concerts and caused them to lose a lot of money.

president Museveni decided to refund them through the State Minister for Culture, Lukia Isanga Nakadama and later be handed to the association President, Abby Musinguzi (Abitex) and Andrew Benon Kibuuka, the president of Federation of Performing Artistes of Uganda (FPAU).

However, some FUPA members started accusing the leadership of including masqueraders on the list.

According to Benon Kasenene who claims to be the sitting president of FUPA but is abroad, Abitex – the man whom he left in office is only giving money to associates of Bobi Wine.

“I understand that some people masquerading as leaders of music promoters went to Museveni with a proposal to obtain money from him as a refund to promoters that lost money they had invested in Bobi Wine’s cancelled music shows. This money has been shared amongst guys who are closely working with Bobi Wine some of whom have been seen on TVs and Radios regularly shouting People Power,” Kasenene said in a statement.

However, according to Benon Kibuuka, the association is still vetting those who claim to have organized canceled concerts before issuing out the cash.
