Katuntu denies he has ever requested Speaker Kadaga to extend his tenure.

Chairman Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities, and State Enterprises COCASE Hon. Abdul Kantuntu has denied the allegations that he went to the speaker of parliament Rebeka Kadaga and begged her to add him some period of time to enable him to complete the investigations into a commercial bank.

He added that he went to Kadaga to show her how far the committee had gone with the work.

Katuntu said that he is not willing to give in power before the committee completes the investigations into bank of Uganda.

Speaker Rebeca Kadaga wrote to the leader of opposition Betty Aol Ochan requesting her to add Hon. Katuntu time so that he can complete his work.

Betty replied no to Kadaga’s request that in case the term for Katuntu and his deputy Anite Amongo expires they are meant to quit and hand the power to the appointed.

Speaker Kadaga went ahead and replied Ochan saying that she was not asking for the extension of the term that she wanted him added some more period of time to enable him complete investigations into Bank of Uganda.

It should be remembered that in August 2018, MP Mubarak Munyagwa was appointed with his deputy Moses Kasibante by FDC to replace Hon. Abdul Katuntu and his vice Rita Amongo whose term ends on 13th January 2018

Meanwhile, the Rubaga North Member of Parliament Moses Kasibante, has told the Speaker Kadaga that the current COSASE  will never complete the probe into central bank because it still has a lot of pending investigations which are also very crucial and that the Speaker’s demand that the committee continues with work will not benefit Abdul Katuntu’s committee but rather tarnishing his reputation.

“Katuntu and his team, whatever they have not completed will be completed by the incoming committee. Why should the Speaker stick on just one report yet there over eight pending reports?” Kasibante asked.

According to Kasibante, some of the pending reports on investigations into Uganda Broadcast Cooperation, National Agricultural Advisory Services (Naads) National Medical Stores and Rural Electrification Agency have not been brought before the Parliament.
“If the Speaker wants Katuntu to finish the work he began, then she would have also looked for the eight pending reports which require fewer efforts than the BOU probe. However, Speaker Kadaga insisted that Katuntu’s completes the probe into BoU and hand over reports.

According to Kasibante, Katuntu also found a lot of unfinished businesses in the office.
