Speaker of parliament Rebeca Kadaga has told the opposition that she is the head, speaker of the house and her proposal is good for the institution and the country.
She emphasized that the Committee on Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (Cosase) chaired by Hon. Abdul Katuntu needs to finish up with its probe into Bank of Uganda so the opposition should calm down and wait.
Speaker Kadaga said this on Thursday when she was addressing journalists in her chambers in Parliament on
“I am the speaker of the house, head of the institution and my proposal is good for the institution and the country. Parliament does work for the country, not political parties,” Said Kadaga.
This followed accusations made by some members of the opposition like Ibrahim Ssemuju Nganda of FDC, Leader of Opposition Betty Aol Ochan, Betty Nambooze, that she does not respect laws which suggest that every Cosase committee will serve only two and half years.
MP Betty Nambooze said, “Kadaga has only powers to lead the processes of the Parliament but she cannot exceed the laws and we shall not let her do what she thinks.”
“I am only requesting that this committee is allowed to make their report and present to Parliament,” added Kadaga
Katuntu and his deputy Anite Among were supposed to hand over Cosase leadership to Kawempe South MP Mubarak Munyagwa and Rubaga North Moses Kasibante on January 13
