“We don’t have your passports”, Ugandans chased away from Internal affairs

Ugandans who had gone at the ministry of Internal Affairs  in Kampala to pick and process passport booklets were shocked and stranded after they were informed that the passports they paid for no longer produced any more

The ordinary People were chased away and tasked to go and pay for E-passports.

Eva Anatusasira, Winnie Kulabako were among those few we managed to talk to said that they were preparing to go abroad for jobs but they denied them this chance because they cannot afford the costs for E-Passport.

“Iwas going abroad by next year but officers told me they no longer give out passports” Said Natusasira.

“I have spent months chasing for this passport but officials told me to go and pay shs 250,000 for E-Passport” Said Kulaako

People said that they were not pleased with government’s decision adding that the system was changed abruptly.

The E-Passports were announced by the internal affairs minister JJ Odong where by the ordinary passport costa 250000 shilling, the second one foe 400,000 and officials for 500000 shillings

Yesterday the legislators reacted to a statement from State Minister for Internal Affairs Obiga Kania, who told the House that the high cost of acquiring the booklets was intended to recoup some of the production costs
