State minister has responded to the question on why the president never attended the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York but instead sent Rugunda.
Source to this story says the President has other more important issues to attend to than moving to new york to address the assembly for only 15 minutes while according to Foreign Affairs ministry, president earlier told the cabinet it was pointless to travel to New York when he was going to address the assembly for only 15 minutes.
It is reportedly said that the assembly is costly since he travels with a big delegation.
However there were claims that the president opted out of the annual meeting over fears of possible hostile reception and demonstrations due to a wave of rising global criticism against his government which include alleged torture of 33 people in Arua District, including Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, and Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake amongst others.
On if Kyadondoeast legislator Kyagulanyi Sentamu is the reason of all, he said Uganda is bigger than Bobi Wine many, many times” and his apparent diplomatic charm offensive in the West will be neutralized.
